Shades of Someone Else
In this short film, I open up about the mental and emotional battles I faced growing up without my father, navigating the pain of loss, and building my identity around being an athlete.
Growing up without my father, I struggled with loss, identity, and tying my worth to being an athlete. Behind my accomplishments was a young man silently battling pain that basketball couldn't fix.
As my struggles deepened, I experienced severe depression that led me to attempt suicide. Through this film, I reveal the reality behind the athlete, challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, and highlight the silent battles many young people face while feeling pressured to appear strong.
This film is a reminder that success doesn't always mean someone is okay, and your identity is worth more than what you achieve.
